A Philanthropic Impact Fund
Decarbon8-US leverages personal and philanthropic capital to support early-stage companies whose technologies and business models accelerate the transition to environmentally sustainable solutions.

Decarbon8-US provides a means for anyone to invest in cleantech enterprises that are transforming our economy through charitable donations.
Climate change poses tremendous risk to our way of life and that of our children, with 50% of Sustainable Development Goals impacted by threats to nature and its communities (IPBES Plenary 2019). Limiting global warming to 1.5C is going to be hard to hit.

In lock-step with policy, advocacy and research, everyone needs to do their part to drive the decarbonization of our economy. This multi-decade endeavor needs investment as well as engaged, active and informed consumers and advocates.

Your tax-deductible contribution to Decarbon8-US supports investment in innovative climate tech companies and helps drive the change the world needs to achieve.
How does it work?
How?
Decarbon8-US is an impact fund that accepts philanthropic donations and grants and subsequently makes equity and debt investments in early stage companies aligned with decarbonization priorities. Deals are sourced through thematic calls for proposals launched in late spring with the investments made in early Fall.

Who is involved?
What happens to returns?
For investments below $20,000, returns will be automatically reinvested in the Fund. For investments of $20,000 and above, investors have the option of reinvesting returns in the Fund or allocating part or all of their returns to their Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or a public charity.
What are the yearly themes?
While all years focus on high potential decarbonization startups, selection is focused on a specific theme each year. The past years’ themes were:
2020: Decarbonization
2021: Agriculture
2022: Transportation
2023: Built Environment
2024: Renewable Energy
Decarbon8-US leverages a diverse coalition of veteran E8 investors, subject matter experts, and fellows to determine the final portfolio each year.
The Fund is hosted and administered by Realize Impact, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
How do I get involved?
Founders should look for our RFP to go live in late spring of each year. We have an online application process.
Investors should start by reviewing last year's Investment and Policy Brief, and reach out with any questions. You can also donate directly here.
